Its Been Done Before

It’s been done before! Yes, but not by me. So what’s special about this photo? It’s just a standard shot of a bridesmaid reflected in a mirror, right? Or is it? Occasionally I get to invent a wheel, such as the heather burning photo in the home page of this web site, even then it has echoes of the napalm scene in ‘Apocalypse Now’. I find that nearly all artists are initially inspired by the work of someone else. As Jerry Ghionis says ‘imitate, emulate, innovate’. I spend time looking at the recent work of photographers and artists that I admire and one such photographer is Jeff Ascough, a great documentary wedding photographer working out of Blackpool. Now his style is probably the opposite of my style, he waits for the moment, I like to take control where it is appropriate to do so. This is my take on an idea I’d first seen on Jeff’s web site. I think this image also works with a horizontal crop rather than the vertical version shown here.Just in case you are wondering…no Photoshop!
